About Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting approximately 2-3 percent of Indian population. It is characterized by presence of red plaques with silvery scales located mostly on the extensors of the body. Normally, skin cells grow gradually and flake off about every 4 weeks. New skin cells grow to replace the outer layers of the skin as they shed. In Psoriasis, new skin cells move rapidly to the surface of the skin in days rather than weeks.
